Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone’s face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions.

Our Story

WE EQUIP COMMUNITIES AND ORGANIZATIONS TO CREATE MORE JUST AND PEACEFUL CULTURES

The Groundswell Group originated as a nonprofit grassroots organization in the Bronx, New York, in the late 1990s. Since then, we have purposed to promote social good and positive impact in communities and within individual lives.

We provide resources such as training programs and workshops that enable individuals, families, and organizations to develop and enhance communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and mediation skills. Groundswell consultants, trainers, and mediators have worked alongside churches, schools, women’s shelters, public housing and healthcare organizations to create peaceful cultures, advance health and wellness, and improve the environment.

We love knowing that we can, and do, make a difference! We also assist organizations and institutions of all kinds (hospitals, churches, tenants’ and community groups, schools, etc.) to “build capacity”—to identify and create the structure(s) necessary to meet their programming needs and goals.

For more than a decade, Groundswell operated as a ministry extension of King of Glory, a Mennonite congregation of the historic peace church tradition in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx. Initially called, “The Groundswell Project,” the depth and breadth of Groundswell's programming and outreach has grown significantly since its inception.

Today, The Groundswell Group is an independent organization. We maintain strong ties with many faith-based groups and community organizations—including healthcare systems, educational institutions and grass-root organizations. Through civic and social engagement, we reduce disparity and share the tools for radical transformation that enable individuals, families and institutions to experience the benefits of sustainable and healthy cultures.
